Steve and I are planning a little vacation in a week or two and it occurred to me, I never posted our pics from New Mexico last year! Oh I think I posted about the springs at Ojo Caliente, but I never really gave you the full slide show of the trip. So, fasten your seat belts, we're going to the Land Of Enchantment (virtually anyway if not literally)! Don't worry, it'll be a fast trip! You'll be home in time for dinner!
First stop is Taos Wool Festival.

I really wanted to bring one of the little alpaca's home with me!

There were lots of beautiful all natural woolen items for sale. (I bought a pair of gloves from this vendor!)

and we learned how to sheer sheep. Well, we watched anyway. This guy is supposedly a world champion sheerer (the one in the boots, not the one with his feet in the air!)

We saw some ancient churches and pueblo villages.

And a lot of handwoven things. (I could not talk Steve into letting us part with 10g or so for a rug, but I did try!)

We saw a lot of this pretty blue color everywhere.

And some aspens, just a few, ha ha! that's a joke in case you weren't sure.

We learned about the mystery of "Our Lady of Guadalupe", or I should say the miracle. Here's
some info if you want to read more about it.

And we drove up into the Sangre de Christo Mountains (more than once). And saw... more aspens! Aren't they gorgeous? And they chatter in the wind. So amazing!

And we stopped at the Rio Grande Gorge, and acted like real tourists there!

And we stopped along the highway and took pictures of the scenery which is so different than our own here in Oklahoma!

Oh, and at the Rio Grande Gorge, we were reminded to stay away from the edge.

And we saw some really crazy houses out in the middle of the dessert. Maybe aliens landed here and decided to stay? I don't know.

And then our wonderful stay at Ojo Caliente. Read more about it
here.

We were like zen'd out when we left there, but it was really nice.

And we were amazed at the ruggedness of all that we saw.

And Steve got his dream come true, a trip to Los Alamos to the Bradbury Science Museum. (I actually enjoyed it too!)

And then we went to Santa Fe for a day or two. And visited museums and galleries and acted like we were rich art buyers so they would give us free bottles of water.

And we strolled the Palace of the Governors and tried to find something amazing for me to bring home. I couldn't find anything more amazing than Steve so we didn't buy anything.

And on the last day, we took another trip up to the mountains, just for old times sake before we left to come home.
Okay, that was our 2008 vacation. Now I can officially look forward to the 2009 trip! This year we are headed to the northern side of the same mountain range, in Colorado, and will head a little further north up to the Rockies, too! I think some of those wool scarves I've been weaving and my wool gloves from last year might come in handy!
